The first iDEALShanghai Awards

The 2012 iDEALShanghai Awards is the first lifestyle awards given by Shanghai Daily since it was established in 1999. The awards go to the most popular restaurants, bars, travel destinations, hotels and airlines of the year.

To ensure fairness, readers and non-readers as well have been invited to vote their favorite choices. The poll opened on August 24, 2012 and closed on October 24, 2012. A jury of six reporters, columnists and lifestyle writers has evaluated winners based on the voting result.

The iDEALShanghai Awards slogan “iDEAL City, iDEAL Life,” conveys the ideal of giving, which is also accord with its Chinese logo “爱de上海,” which literally means “Shanghai of Love.”

In August 2012, Shanghai Daily introduced its first sub-brand, iDEALShanghai, which was designed to provide accurate, timely and useful city guide information for local expats and visiting foreigners. The new sub-brand now has a weekly newspaper, a monthly supplement, a website (iDEALShanghai.com), iPhone app and the iDEALShanghai Awards.

“i” in the title represents us; “D” means “Dining”, “E” goes to “Entertainment”, “A” implies accommodation and “L” stands for “Leisure” which suggests a kind of casual lifestyle.

Shanghai Daily published the weekly journal and monthly supplement for iDEAL on October 2010 to offer a complete range of lifestyle information in and about Shanghai and neighboring cities, covering dining, shopping, tourism and living in local communities. In this August, iDEALShanghai.com, the English-language lifestyle website and its app were launched. Meanwhile, iDEALShanghai has launched its 2012 awards.
