THE YEAR'S MUST-TRY FOODIE FESTIVAL HAS ARRIVED IN STYLE AT THE FAIRMONT PEACE HOTEL
Now is the season to harvest nature's culinary treasure, as the fertile, protected lakes around Shanghai bear forth the ultimate in savory Chinese cuisine – the Shanghai hairy crab. As Shanghai welcomes the return of its most famously succulent seasonal delicacy, hairy crab, the Fairmont Peace Hotel is elevating this ultimate tasty treat to new heights, with clever and contemporary fusions.
Alongside the traditional and authentic style of gourmand presentation, experience this once-in-a-year blessing with our fusion of healthy super-foods, in tune with the natural flavor highlights of the hairy crab. Delicately cooked crab with rice wine and pomelo presents bursts of exotic, fruity notes alongside the rich and naturally sweet roe. The steamed okra stuffed with crab meat is a boon for your body's health and your taste senses, combining the fresh crunch of okra in sync with the moist joy of the crab-meat. And of course, no Shanghai-style meal would be complete without the other star of the region: steamed xiaolongbao, packed with crab-meat, ready to burst with flavor.
Braised avocado with crab-meat is yet another unique and exclusive contemporary food revelation, conjured up by our Master Chef. Hairy crab season officially starts in the ninth lunar month for female crab and the tenth for male crab. Each crab weighs in between 180-250 grams and this winter delicacy is cherished throughout China and across Asia because of its delicate, succulent meat and moist roe. The most prized hairy crabs come from the deep, cold waters of Yangcheng Lake, just outside of Shanghai, and have been ethically sourced and especially selected for the Fairmont Peace Hotel.
