Marriott International and Luneng Group sign six more hotels across Greater China

Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) and Luneng Group today signed project agreements for the addition of six new hotel projects. A strategic cooperation that already sees two properties in operation and a further three in the pipeline, this event signals a great development in the relationship between both companies. It also supports Marriott International’s strategic plan to expand rapidly across a broad spectrum of brands in various locations across Greater China.


Luneng Group Co., Ltd. operates as a real estate developer in China, mainly developing hotels, shopping malls, residence, theme parks, and office buildings. The Group also has active operations in various industries and management services, as well as engages in clean energy development services with the focus on wind energy. 


The signing ceremony was held in Wen’an in the presence of Mr. Lan Hai, Vice President of Luneng Group, Mr. Li Jin Hai, the GM of  Luneng Commercial and Tourism Property Co., as well as Henry Lee, Chief Operations Officer & Managing Director, Greater China and Marriott International, Colin Lin, Senior Vice President, Hotel Development, China. The signing of an additional six properties across three brands, namely three Marriott Hotels, two Courtyards by Marriott and a JW Marriott, with a total of more than 1,400 rooms in the portfolio comes with great excitement and confidence of the cooperation between the two companies.

Located in the CBD of the Airport New Town in Yubei District, the Chongqing Marriott Hotel Central Park will be part of a mixed-use development project and approximately 25km away from downtown Chongqing. In close proximity to the Central Park, International Expo Center as well as the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and Railway station, this 300-room property is a good destination for business and leisure travelers looking to explore new areas.


Nestled in tranquil greeneries and overlooking Wuxi’s Li Lake, Wuxi Marriott Hotel Li Lake and Courtyard by Marriott Wuxi Li Lake are supreme getaway destinations. Scheduled to open in 2018, the stand-alone hotels will be adjacent to one another, with the 252-room Marriott Hotel being a new-built project, as well as the 150-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel being a converted hotel consisting of two blocks. Located 30 minutes from the airport and three high-speed railway stations, it is also in close proximity to other scenic areas and corporate locations, making this a great destination for leisure and business travelers alike.


The 260-room Changbai Mountain Marriott Resort and 300-room Courtyard by Marriott Changbai Mountain Manjiang will be part of the mixed-use Changbaishan Luneng Resort, offering an abundance of recreational, retail and entertainment facilities, including 45 ski trails. The two hotels will be housed in separate buildings, with shared meeting facilities and Kids Club. Located in Manjiang Town, they will be a 40 minutes’ drive from Changbaishan Airport, famous ski slopes and scenic areas.


Inside the relic of the Ancient Ming City, in the heart of Qufu City, JW Marriott Hotel Qufu will take its prestigious place in the hometown of Confucius. The 211-room hotel is expected to capture growing leisure and MICE business and will be the top choice for visitors to Qufu. In excellent location close to landmark tourist attractions, guests will be able to explore the Temple of Confucius and The Confucius Memorial Park, before indulging in one of the hotel’s restaurants or host events in the large function spaces.


The new properties will be operated in addition to the Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay and the recently opened The Shanhaitian Resort Sanya, Autograph Collection. Already in the pipeline currently are The Ritz-Carlton, Jiuzhaigou, The Shanghai EDITION as well as the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong. All of these properties are highly anticipated openings, with the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong also being the first JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Asia Pacific. The Marriott International and Luneng Group cooperation now sees a total of six brands within their portfolio, signaling a strong relationship with a common vision for the hospitality scene in China.
