The second annual Shanghai Daily Readers’ Day is a big event for our fabulous readers. We invite you to join us for wonderful live performances, games and lucky draws.
Martial art masters and amazing dancers
Dance shows Dancers from Russia, Ukraine,Poland and other countries will perform on Readers’ Day ahead of their performances at the Shanghai International Arts Festival. This means those in attendance will get a sneak preview of what to expect during the festival.
The performances will feature a mix of modern ballet, tango, waltz,tap and other dances. Don’t miss it!
Wing Chun is a martial art focused on self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while teaching adherents how to excel in close-range combat. Shanghai Daily has invited Wing Chun masters from Jun Yong Town, a kung fu learning center,to give a demonstration. For those who are interested in learning more about the power of Chinese martial arts, this is a great opportunity.
A guzheng (a Chinese stringed instrument) performance takes place immediately after the Wing Chun masters kick and punch up a storm.
Fun and games:
-Paper Plane Making Contest
Contestants will be given a newspaper to make a paper plane. The one who can fly the plane furthest will be the winner. Sounds easy, but it’s not.
There will be an adult group and another for children. Each contest will have three participants and everyone gets a prize.
The winner in the adult group gets a C919 airplane model while participants will get souvenirs provided by Sanfo Outdoor. Toys“R”Us is providing the prizes for the kids.
- Plank Competition
It is time to show off your power and stamina. Shanghai Daily invites readers to join in the plank competition. The contest is designed to see who can hold up their body the longest. There will be an adult group and another for children. Contestants will be placed into groups of five and all participants receive a prize. Prizes for adults will be provided by Sanfo Outdoor, and prizes for kids will be from Toys“R”Us.
- Lucky draw
An hourly lucky draw will be held to ensure many readers go home with a great gift. The first prize is valued around 5,000 yuan.
- Children’s Playground
Kids will be delighted to jump around in a bouncy castle, take a stab at painting and play foosball games. The familyfriendly event is very much designed with the wee ones in mind. Food and beverage suppliers will be on hand serving a variety of snacks and desserts. A wine tasting area is likely to keep the adults busy while the kids are off having fun.

Various companies will set up booths providing information about such things as traveling, car rentals, medical services and international schools to make life more convenient for expats living in the city.
