Wang Peixin, the owners of a magazine stall on Fuzhou Road chat with a customer (right) yesterday. Wang and his wife Zhao Yan have been selling magazines for 35 years and claim their 20-square-meter "Shantou Bookstall" has the widest range of titles, some of them in English, of any stall in the city.
With the rise in popularity of digital media, however, making a living is getting harder. Wang said the stall’s daily revenue has fallen from a peak of 5,000 yuan (US$815) to just 500 yuan. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic that there will always be some people who love an old-fashioned magazine.
