LOCAL expatriates are invited to volunteer for a number of charity activities or join a photo contest during the annual "True Love Under the Blue Sky" charity event, which starts on Saturday.
The city will host 75 activities, including fundraising, charity galas, auctions and free medical treatment to mark the event, which runs through January 12. The event is in its 18th year.
Expats will be encouraged to play games and teach English at children's welfare houses and schools of migrant children on December 8, Fang Guoping, executive vice chairman of the Shanghai Charity Foundation, said yesterday. That day is set aside as "charity and volunteer service day" this year by the foundation, Fang said.
A charity photo contest will run during the event. Details will be announced on the website soon, according to Fang.
Some new programs have been borrowed from overseas.
A short video about children with infantile autism will be aired on some flights landing in Shanghai, encouraging passengers to donate, Fang said. All donations will be disclosed publicly, the foundation said.
