ROCK legends Aerosmith have canceled tomorrow’s concert at the city’s Hongkou Football Stadium, claiming “the local promoter was unable to meet contractual obligations.”
The gig would have been the Chinese mainland debut for the four-time winners of the Best Rock Band Grammy, who formed in Boston, Massachusetts, back in 1970.
Aerosmith, the best-selling American rock band of all time, have also canceled a performance on Saturday at a rock festival in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, said the Aerosmith official website.
Frontman Steven Tyler said the band were “upset” at canceling the shows.
“We are extremely upset to have disappointed our dedicated fans,” wrote Tyler on the band’s website.
Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, with titles including as “Toys in the Attic” and “Permanent Vacation.”
A 1986 collaboration with hip hop group Run—D.M.C. on their cover of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” helped introduce the band to a new audience.
The Shanghai Cultural Exchange Agency said tickets can be returned for a full refund through the end of August.
