First laundromat in Shanghai
2013-08-20

A 24-hour laundry shop, Bubble Laundromat, has opened on Lujiabang Road, Huangpu District. The 10-square-meter laundry uses coin-operated washers. It costs 10 yuan per load and 10 yuan for drying.

Owner Shen Ping said normal laundry can be done in an hour -- 40 minutes for washing and 20 minutes for drying. Customers can buy a 20-yuan or 100-yuan card to use the facility and follow instructions on the wall. They must bring their own detergent or buy it from a shop next door.

Shen said all the washing machines were imported from the US, featuring a drain pump to avoid pollution from residuals. The maximum load of these washers is 8 kilograms, suitable for travelers and migrant workers.

Bubble Laundromat now receives seven to eight customers each day. Shen plans to open more outlets in the future, import washers with a load capacity of 20 kilos for family users, and offer online booking.
