Add:232 Anfu Rd
Hidden away in one of small bungalows along Anfu Road, Brut Cake is a quirkily decorated shop featuring vintage and new items. Products range from ceramics to refurbished vintage furniture, plus many other lines. Open since last December, Nicole Teng, its designer from Taiwan, uses her bare hands to add a special touch to every item found in the shop. Highlights include a 100-year-old teak chair with exquisite carvings that are well preserved, on sale for 6,000 yuan (US$972). Teng, who has a passion for vintage cloth, used old material to spruce up the old chair, giving it a new modern look, yet without losing its heritage value. The store also carries a variety of hand-made products - a utensil holder is priced at 80 yuan while a refurnished sofa is sold at 10,000 yuan. In a two-week collaboration running until the first week of May, ceramic works by other artists are being placed in the shop. One of the designers previously produced lines for the Japanese Muji chain.
