The Pathé villa was built in 1921 and covers 192 m2 with a floor area of 480 m2.This three-story villa is made of brick and wood. It uses stone inlay in the middle of its north side and supports its south balcony with two pillars. With rectangular doors and windows, this red brick building is nicknamed La Villa Rouge, “the red villa” for French.

The villa used to be the Asia-Pacific headquarters of Pathé Orient, which was regarded as the cradle of China’s recording industry.

March of the Volunteers (lyrics by Tian Han and music by Nie Er), theme song to the movie Sons and Daughters in a Time of Storm produced by Diantong Film Company, was recorded here in 1935.The villa was listed by the Shanghai municipal government as an Excellent Historical Building in 2005.
