The Tailor Bar (For real cocktail connoisseurs)
Although it is hardly Shanghai’s first speakeasy, the Tailor Bar is the only one which is so well-hidden that takes you a while but worth to find: stand in front of the Paramount by Jing'an Temple and look across Yuyuan road toward a pharmacy on the corner. Then, take a tiny elevator at right and up to the fourth floor.
Finally，welcome to the No-Cocktail-Menu world—all drinks are "tailored" to the customers' tastes by head bartender David Hong, who trained at the Ritz-Carlton hotel bar in Berlin. “I will talk to you to know your personal taste preferences before I make a unique drink for you”, David is good at blending different flavors loved by customers together based on professional principles of cocktail mix, “The drinking culture in China is not very mature and at least 5-8 years lagging behind the international cocktail trends, I hope customers to be more open minded to advanced suggestions instead of limiting choices to drinks with fresh looking only”
After entering into the bar, you will be greeted by a wall decorated with fixed gear bicycles and a wall of windows overlooking the glittering Jing’an Temple. Sitting at tables in the back will allow you to take full advantage of the view. You can spend all night here and watch the sun rise over the Jing’an Temple through the window. The quiet bar offers probably the highest-quality cocktail in town and has been a good destination for real cocktail connoisseurs.
