One of the finest Indian restaurants in Shanghai, Tandoor is tucked in the Jin Jiang Hotel complex. Its intimate, exotic atmosphere makes it a favorite dining destination for gourmets and an ideal choice for romantic dates. The luxurious interiors, just like a royal palace for a Maharajah, capture the spirit of the journey of two Chinese monks, between the 4th and 6th centuries, traveling on the Silk Road from China to India. The interior is laid out in a style representing the geographical spread of this journey and five pavilions represent classic architectural styles from the cultural identities encountered en route. The largely barbeque and curry based dishes are prepared by experienced Indian chefs, taking into consideration spice levels preferred by guests and authentic offerings use imported Indian ingredients. Most dishes are marinated in yogurt, Indian spices and herbs, prepared in such a way that they carry low fat content and less calories but exude authentic tastes. Diners unfamiliar with Indian fare can consult the staff for advice on dishes. The prices are above average, with Tandoori chicken priced at 125 yuan and Mango Lassi 50 yuan.
