The Okura Garden Hotel is located in the heart of the city on the grounds of the former French Club and includes a 28,000-square-meter garden. Managed by Japanese Okura Hotels & Resorts, it successfully blends old world elegance with all the comforts of a luxury 5-star hotel.

Situated directly opposite the Jin Jiang Hotel, the hotel is adjacent to the Shaanxi Road S. subway station. The Shaanxi Road S. is a shoe shopping heaven for the local trendy-followers.

Opened in 1926, this sweeping neoclassical clubhouse, with its colonnaded second floor and baroque flourishes, was one of the most luxurious of its day. It had an indoor swimming pool, billiards room, lawn tennis courts and one of the most spectacular ballrooms in the city. After 1949, it became the Jin Jiang Club and was also used by late Chairman Mao Zedong as a guesthouse during his visits to Shanghai. Today's luxurious Okura Garden Hotel was erected in 1989, incorporating the clubhouse. The stairs in the east entrance lobby, leading to the second floor, vividly reflect the popular art deco trend of old Shanghai. With extensive use of the era's design elements, the remarkable place is worth a visit, combining the best of classical elegance and modern comfort.
