Different from any yoga or Pilates studio in the city, Bodyworks helps teach your body to work for you by integrating the concepts of  "structure" and "function" through the use of a fully equipped Pilates studio hidden in Joy Tower on Zhenning Road. Headed by "movement specialist" Richard Brown, who has trained extensively in acupuncture, shiatsu and myo-facial manipulation, the studio provides both group and private classes on yoga, mat and machine-based Pilates. Brown said an introductory one-on-one session (300 yuan) is necessary the first time as the trainer can get an idea of which class suits you well. "Reformer" class is very much welcomed because it includes a series of movements designed to help stretch, strengthen, lengthen and tone the body. And it normally takes some time for a person to begin to understand the principles being taught. Brown also mentioned the machine-based Pilates class helps pregnant woman build strength, flexibility and coordination to prevent back pain and maintain mobility throughout pregnancy. Post-natal Pilates helps tighten the abdominals and get new moms back into shape. For group classes, a 25-session pass is charged at 3,000 yuan. For personal training, 10 classes are charged at 4,500 yuan (by a senior instructor) and 5,500 yuan (by Brown himself.)
