Discover ancient dinosaurs only minutes from the Bund. Shanghai Natural History Museum, located at the corner of Yan'an Road E. and Henan Road M. has been established in a historic building since 1958. The building is a classical British structure built in 1923 and designed by Atkinson & Dallas Architects and Civil Engineers Ltd. It once held the Shanghai Cotton Exchange. The museum, occupying 3,000 square meters, features a collection of 240,000 exhibits, including ancient corpses, prehistoric animals, prehistoric human beings, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The most eye-catching exhibit is a 140-million-year-old giant dinosaur skeleton of a mamenchisaurus from Sichuan Province, which is more than four-story high. There are also extinct species on display, such as a Yellow River mammoth and coelacanth. Admission: 5 yuan (78 US cents)
