Hunan House, one of the few Chinese restaurants in this area, is bound to impress you with spicy and sophisticated Hunan cuisine. Opened last August, this restaurant delivers classic Hunan dishes in a three-story lane house tucked down an alley on Fuxing Road W. Mashed eggplant (32 yuan) is served in traditional wooden bowls. Spicy shredded roast duck (48 yuan), the spiciest dish on the menu, will definitely please those who like it hot. After a lot of spice, you can cool down, so to speak, with various none-spicy vegetable dishes and desserts. Most ingredients are sourced from Hunan Province. Customers can ask for less spicy versions of dishes. For drinks, white wine is recommended. Basic cocktails and a house wine is also served. The average cost for dinner including drinks is around 120 yuan to 180 yuan.
The three-story establishment is decorated in a simple style, using a white-and-red color scheme that provides a sophisticated yet relaxed environment. The beautiful winding staircase is thought to look like a phoenix, which is the name of an ancient town on the western border of Hunan.
