The most talked-about, high-profile restoration project on the Bund is one of the area's most signature properties - the former Cathay Hotel, now the Fairmont Peace Hotel. During the restoration process, as many designers were consulted as possible. After the hotel opened, the Peace Gallery was set up on the mezzanine floor as a small museum to celebrate the hotel's fascinating history. On display are items and memorabilia including the hotel's silver tableware, porcelain, crystal and antiques that decorated the rooms. Art Deco furnishings, newspapers and photographs of the hotel and its celebrity visitors, brochures and books that tell the tale of the grand old hotel are also on display. The exhibit is divided into three periods - Cathay Hotel (1929-1952), Peace Hotel (1956-2007) and Fairmont Peace Hotel, which opened in 2010 after the restoration was completed.
