The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai sets the stage for the finest Italian dining experience outside of Italy with the opening of Palladio Italian restaurant.
The quality of the food in Palladio centers round the selection of the freshest ingredients, signature dishes and new offerings celebrating seasonal changes.
To create a visual experience of space, a direct axial symmetry links the entrance arch, entrance vestibule, ocular window and an arch at the other end of the restaurant; while a piazza marble mosaic extends from the courtyard into the restaurant interior.
The warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant is enhanced by indirect lighting from a barrel vaulted ceiling which adjusts automatically to simulate natural light movement. Inspired by the Doge’s Palace in Venice, the lighting behind the feature walls create an illusion of loggia, arising in depth and texture. This is due to new woven fibre optic technology used for the first time outside of Japan. The tracery accentuating the feature walls are reminiscent of those in the Villa Ca’d’Oro in Venice.
