This Church has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The wild greenery, unkempt lawns and ivy covered red brick exterior would not be out of place in an English village, but you will find it here on Hengshan Road in southwestern Shanghai.
The church was completed in 1925 and reflects a modern, gothic style. It was mainly used by immigrants to begin with and later Chinese Christians with high social status. Famous faces, including former American President Jimmy Carter, have visited Shanghai Community church.
Two thousand worshippers can fill the church, which is made from wood and brick and is famous for the high standard of its choir.
The morning services are held in Mandarin, for Mandarin-speaking foreign nationals. The afternoon services on Sundays at 2 and 4pm are all in English.
