Add:High-Tech District， Suzhou
The White Horse Gully and Dragon Pond Scenic Area serves as a “green lung” for the high-tech district. Surrounded by mountains and water, the scenic area holds many historical remains.
The site can be traced back 2,500 years. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-467 BC), King Fu Chai of Wu forced King Gou Jian of Yue, who had lost a war against Wu, to feed horses here.
Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) both visited the site during their trips to the region south of the Yangtze River and the remains of temporary palaces they left behind can still be seen.
In addition to historical remains, the scenic area boasts beautiful natural landscapes and animal life. Biologists discovered freshwater jellyfish, known as a living fossil with a history of 550 million years, in the area in 2002. An ice and snow festival is held here every summer.
