Look in any newspaper and you’ll definitely see an article or pictorial on the newly renovated Zhongshan Road. We’d been down there many times over the past few months hoping to see something different, but to no avail, then, this past month, all the scaffolding and tarps came down. Now if this street doesn’t knock your socks off, we don’t know what will. It’s still not as packed with shops as it’s going to be, but the general layout should still wow you. Aside from the electric tour cars (5RMB/go) they’ve made it a pedestrian way from West Lake Avenue all the way down to the Drum Tower. They’ve built the architecture with such a mix of modern and traditional styles that it’ll make even the best of them shake their heads. One of our favorites are the zigzagging office spaces that crop out of the main buildings. Get your hands on one of these hot properties and your customers/clients will be very impressed. Another feature we love is the way that they’ve preserved the old building fronts in the area just before you hit the Drum Tower. If you’re hungry there’s no need to worry, as there’s a great shengjianbao place just on the corner of Zhongshan Road and Gaoying Street. Or if you’re thirsty, there’s a nice frozen fruit drink shop just south of the West Lake Avenue intersection. Desserts anyone? They’ve got a Crispy Donut shop just across the street from the frozen drink place. If you’ve got an hour to kill, Zhongshan Road is a great place to commit the crime.
