The restaurant opened in Shanghai in 1928, moved to Hong Kong in 1949 (it's still well-known there) and is now back in Shanghai. It's very atmospheric and old Shanghai, with its booths, chandeliers, old photos and jazz background music. Here authentic, quality dacai flavor is delivered with attentive service. The wine list is extensive. Many dishes are Shanghai adaptations of foreign dishes. These include sautéed wagyu beef with steamed rice, Madras beef curry served with steamed rice and the flavorful and juicy dry-aged cuts of beef.
