Now we've stayed away from West Lake One for some time because when we first went there, they had no English menu, and we felt a bit put off by this considering the prices they were charging. In our hope to get some of the best outdoor spots around town this month, we decided to give it a go, and were pleasantly surprised to find that they now do have an English menu. Upon entering, we were greeted by a smiling staff member who then brought us up to the second floor balcony. The outdoor seating on the balcony here has got to be in contention for any “Best of Hangzhou”award in the category outdoor seating. It overlooks the lake and the passersby below, and seats are really comfortable. While this place does have some really expensive things on the menu, it is possible to get by without making a huge dent in the wallet. We ordered just the right amount of food.

The Duck Tongue was simply delicious as it had just the right amount of fat on it. The Black Pepper Beef Fried with Onion was elegantly served on a sheet of deep fried tofu skin and worth every jiao of its 128RMB price tag. Though the Braised Pork wasn’t as good as the one we had at She Rural Restaurant this month, it was nicely served atop a bed of broccoli. Another hit was the Sliced Fish Served with Beans. The Hainan Wenchang Style Roast Chicken was a little bit on the short side, but it was good despite its small size. Then we got a bowl of Dancing Glass Noodles as a filler. Considering the price, 480RMB/four people, this isn’t a place to go to everyday, but it’s definitely worth a trip on one of these gorgeous days and as is customary at these top notch places, they served us nice tea throughout the meal followed by individual fruit plates to top things off.
