It was with great anticipation that we went to the Oakwood. We’d heard so much about it over the past few months, and with their being an absence of new restaurants in last month's magazine, we were ready for something fresh off the chopping block. The Oakwood is a building with serviced apartments, a restaurant, a gym, and a bar. When we first got to the bar, the whizzing of the blender told us that there was something good to be had. It's a small place not unlike someone's very well done living room. As a matter of fact, the whole of the Oakwood reminded us of someone’s living room. It's a homey place that makes you forget that you're in a hotel because after all it’s not a hotel, but a block of serviced apartments. Everything in the Oakwood is done to the highest standards. From the big beds to the ovens in the kitchens, they even have all the pots and pans anyone would ever need. But why anyone would want to cook when they have a restaurant as good as the one they have is beyond us. They've got a Caesar Salad (48RMB) that does a man well, and for the bigger spenders, they've got Grilled Australian Beef Sirloin Steak (198RMB). Most impressive was their Oakwood Express menu which offers seven small dishes for each selection helping the eater sample different types of Chinese cuisine. For those of you who are constantly looking for the best burger (78RMB) or pizza (68RMB) in town, this has to be a place to start the judging. It’s the first time in town we've seen a house burger served with avocado. We had a hard time finding room for dessert and an even harder time leaving the place after we stuffed ourselves full of them. The Tiramisu (78RMB) was as nice as any.
