Built in 276 AD and located in the center of Suzhou Old Town, Temple of Mystery is a national-level cultural relic protection site.
The Taoist temple boasts a representation of Laozi, which was painted by Wu Daozi, a famous artist, with inscriptions constructed by Emperor Xuanzong in Tang Dynasty and written by Yan Zhenqing, a master of calligraphy.

Reputed as “Sacred music in Suzhou,” the Taoist music in Temple of Mystery has been listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The temple also provides flying cymbal performances, which have nearly become extinct.
