Founded on December 30, 1956, Shanghai Mass Art Center had been relocated 16 times until it moved to its current address on Guyi Road in June 2001. With an approval from the Municipal Government in 2006, the center was expanded with buildings now totaling 17,300 square meters.
As a public cultural institution, the center holds art and cultural activities to preserve and promote Chinese folk arts and culture. It is open to the public and provides services to enrich the cultural life of Shanghai people.
The art center is devoted to encouraging literary and art creation among ordinary people and providing support to mass cultural programs.
