The exhibition entitled “Pierre Auguste Renoir, A life for painting” is currently taking place and will be on until March 6th at the No.2 West Hall of Shanghai Exhibition Center. Renoir was born in France in 1841 into a family of artisans and early in his career was influenced by the Impressionist movement. This influence led him to create works of art that incorporated outdoor scenes completed with swift visible brushstrokes. By the 1880s, he had broken away from the Impressionist style and experimented with a more formalist style, which included depictions of the female nude. The exhibition traces the evolution of Renoir’s style, which includes vivid colors and subject matters that reflect the socially conscious society of his times.
