Russian conductor Yuri Temirkanov will give a concert in Shanghai together with the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in June. The programs include Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5” and Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 6 Pathetique.” Established in 1882, the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra has been described as “one of the greatest and most exciting orchestras in the world.” Since 1988, Temirkanov has led the orchestra. Recently, the orchestra has been ranked among the top twenty orchestras in the world.
Temirkanov has been the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he regularly undertakes major international tours and recordings. Temirkanov has received many awards including Russia’s Order for Merit for the Country of all four degrees.
