A Bahamian singer, producer, song writer, pianist teacher but best known as a jazz vocalist, Akia was born in Nassau, Bahamas. Her first foray into the music world starts from the piano at 5 years old when her mother taught her to play the instrument. At the age of 18, she discovered her passion in singing jazz. Whilst she was studying music arts in the College of Bahamas, Akia also established her presence in the jazz community. As early as 1999, she performed with seasoned jazz musicians in Nassau. By 2000, she was dubbed “Bahamian Ella Fitzgerald”. In the same year she took the Trinity College of London Vocal Music examination, and she garnered the exhibition award with highest results as a vocalist.
After graduated from the College of Bahamas with a music arts degree, Akia began her career as a music teacher and a jazz vocalist, performing at various hotels in Bahamas. She participated at the Cacique Awards Show for two consecutive years and in 2004, she was a leading performer in the show Disco Divas. In the following year Akia took the lead for the show “Bahama Mama”. In 2007 Akia produced her first album “Intimacy with Him” and in 2008, she became full-time performer to be an entertainer.
Before Akia comes to Shanghai, she was in Shenzhen as the resident vocalist at Duke’s of The Langham, Shenzhen, for two years. Akia has enchanted her followers in China and worldwide with her R&B, Motown and classic songs.
